Try Me-Sound Bath

In my quest to calm my nervous system more regularly, I’ve been trying various new things. You're already familiar with my Red Light practice, my love of Grounding, Journaling, and the importance of sleep. A new practice I’ve been flirting with at the gym is Sonic Meditation. According to the Class Breakdown on my Equinox App, the class is “a deeply immersive experience that uses sound to nurture body and mind. Get centered, relax, and immerse yourself in the sounds of chimes, rain sticks, singing bowls, gongs, and more. This soothing blend of guided meditation and live musical instruments will leave you feeling uplifted and restored.” Yes, PLEASE.

I’ve been to a few classes, and the singing bowls* are my favorite. Something about that frequency breaks something open in me, and tears immediately leak from my eyes. Not exactly uplifting, but very cathartic. I’ve been a bit frustrated when going because other members are so relaxed that they begin to snore. I don’t know what it is about the frequency of snoring, but it is ANYTHING but restorative. Why does that sound illicit, such rage? Just me?

While the consistent tones are conducive to enhanced focus and clarity, making it easier to enter a meditative state and improve concentration, my monkey brain was active as ever last night. Jumping from blog ideas to lines of lyrics to anxiety over Scott driving solo to Tennessee to deciding what to eat for dinner, I could not quiet it down. I was fidgety and distracted, intrigued by each new instrument and amused when I heard the instructor sing louder just as a snore rang through the room.

Maybe I will try to find a sonic meditation I can do at home. Stage a cozy palette to lie on with a weighted blanket to ground my system, light candles to create a warm, soft glow, and dot Bergamot on my pulse points or burn sage to enhance the relaxation. Now that sounds relaxing, and then the only snorer I will need to worry about is me.
